Your Most Important Relationship
Posted under: Faith Journey
Have you ever wondered where we get the concept of relationship? Why do we desire relationships with people? Why do we enjoy good friendships and want to share life with others? There is a deep longing in our hearts for significant and lasting relationships but why is this so? How is it that a heart knows it needs relationships in order to satisfy its most insatiable cravings?
The quest to answer these questions is what leads us to seek out relationships. We want to know that our lives matter and we long to be known deeply by another person. I believe God imprinted these desires in our hearts so that we would seek out the most important relationship of all, one with Jesus Christ. And it is through this relationship that we come to know God personally for the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:19,
God was using Christ to restore his relationship with humanity.
As someone who grew up under the heavy weight of religion and rules, I can tell you that relationship is the wiser choice. In fact, Jesus says a relationship with him is the only option you have in personally approaching God. If this truth does not sit well with you, you’ll have to take it up with God. Here’s what I can tell you. My relationship with God through Jesus is the best relationship I have on this earth. Yes, even better than my relationship with my husband because God created me and he knows me more intimately than anyone else ever could. Without a relationship with Jesus, my efforts in other relationships would lack passion, purpose and love.
My only regret is that I did not choose a relationship with Jesus sooner. I wasted precious time on casual and superficial connections with people as temporary fixes to my heart’s longing for intimate and meaningful relationships. I’m thankful Jesus didn’t stop pursuing me into a relationship with him even when I ignored his wooing. He waited patiently for me to choose him just as he has been patiently waiting for you.
My friends if you have not yet chosen a relationship with Jesus, I pray you will do so this day.
